Happiness: the greatest gift that we possess

Be optimistic. The health benefits of happiness.

Our signature tune at Optio Senioris

Be optimistic

Studies have shown that optimism can reduce pain and improve quality of life, even for people with serious medical conditions.

Being optimistic doesn’t mean ignoring your problems, or pretending that the world is perfect. But by seeing the glass half full, you can feel positive emotions even during hard times. Happy people live longer, primarily because a positive mindset and strong social connections physically protect the body.

Happiness acts as a buffer against stress

Happiness, exercise, a good diet and strong social connections prolong life by triggering “feel-good” hormones and keeping the primary stress hormone, cortisol, in check.

While short-term stress spikes are natural, prolonged stress creates damaging inflammation. Happiness naturally suppresses these harmful effects. It acts as a biological buffer, lowering stress hormones and reducing the chronic inflammation that leads to major diseases like diabetes, stroke and heart failure, and so promotes a longer, healthier life.

Why it matters to us

Our staff are all optimists. Part of the job description of every one of our caregivers is to maintain an optimistic approach, because it helps the people in our care as much as any treatment plan.
